Fuel filter Change.

Basically ALL petrol injection Sierra are done the same way, this is done on my 2.9 EFI. Other models 'may' have some covers etc to move.

1. Shiny new filter

2. Release the fuel pressure, stick a screwdriver into the thing on the fuel rail that looks like a tyre valve. This MUST be done with a cold engine and NO naked flames for safety's sake. Better still do it after the car has been idle overnight as then there will no little or no pressure at all.

3. Locate the filter, on most Sierra's its bolted the the underside above the driveshaft.

4. Unscrew the 2 banjo nut's they might be tight so hold the filter with a spanner on the 'hex' part near the banjo.

The forward facing end 17mm.

And the rear facing end 19mm.

5. Unbolt the bracket (13mm bolt) and remove the filter/braket.

6. Drain whats left into something (a cut up coke bottle).

This shows it draining from the INLET side.

As you can see its well shitty and needed changing.

7. Remove the bracket from the old filter and fit it onto the new one in roughly the same place. You don't have to super tighten it, just enough to keep it secure. The last thing you want to do is to deform the new filter.

8. Replace the bracket and finger tighten the retaining bolt. Then re-connect the fuel lines making sure you put a new copper sealing ring each side of the banjo.

9. Do up everything tight not forgetting the retaining bolt.

10. Double check the 2 banjos are done up VERY TIGHT and cycle the keys in the ignition a good few time to prime the system and pressurize the filter then look VERY CAREFULLY for any leaks. Re-tighten if necessary.

As you can see I had a Ford filter on mine before I changed it, so it very well could have been the original.
